Pottsville man on Pope County Top Ten wanted list arrested for Failure to Register as Sex Offfender

One of Pope counties Ten Most Wanted criminals was arrested--and released -- in less than 24-hours after his arrest on Friday on charges of Failing to Report and Comply with Requirements of the Arkansas Sex Offender registry.

Michael Arronlee Hughes, 31, of Pottsville was released at 10:04 am Saturday morning after his 10:44 am Friday arrest. Because of his failure to register, Hughes was also hit with a Probation Violation charge. He was released on a $7500 bond.

According to Arkansas Crime Information Center Hughes and Arkansas Court Connect, who last known address was in the 70 block of Levi Place in Pottsville, has been the subject of a warrant for failing to register since July 14 of this year. He failed to report on June 12, meaning almost a month passed before the warrant was issued.

Hughes is a Level 2 sex offender who was convicted of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree.

Failure to register as a Sex Offender is an Arkansas Class Y Felony, punishable by 3-10 years in prison and.or a $10,000 fine.

The crime that got Hughes on the Sex Offender Register initially occurred sometime before 2017 because he was also arrested that year for Failure to Report. Also in 2017, Hughes was also convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance Meth/Cocaine in December 2017 and received a 46-moth prison sentence with 18 months suspended.
