Homeless man will have a regular place to sleep for the next several years after pea deal


A 26-year-old Arkoma man received a 10-year imposed sentence in Sebastian County Circuit Court this week after a plea deal on two failure to appear charges evolving from past crimes.


According to information supplied by the Sebastian County District Court, Bruce Allen Button Jr, who is listed as homeless with the Fort Smith Police Department, took a plea deal in open court on Wednesday afternoon and was sentnced to the decade in prison with additional 20-year suspended.

He was also facing several petition to revoke charges all of which were withdrawn due to his plea deal on Wednesday. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.


Button has a long history of criminal activity in Sebastian County including an arrest in August, 2020 for robbery an arrest in March of 2021 for absconding and a parole violation, and a big arrest in December of 2021 for possession of drug paraphernalia, Class C Felony failure to appear and as a fugitive from out of state.


Button has been in the Sebastian County adult detention Center since June 11th after his latest arrest. He will remain in the county facility a waiting transfer to the Arkansas department of corrections.
