Head-on crash Thursday morning in Farmington leaves three dead, one injured

A horrific three car accident Thursday morning in Washington County took the lives of two adults and a child as well as sending a second minor to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

According to information provided by the Arkansas State Police, a 2016 Acura that was southbound on Broyles Street in Farmington crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound 2000 Chevrolet head-on.

The Acura, driven by 40-year-old Steven j Kaufman of Fayetteville, sideswiped a 2021 Nissan as he started the passing maneuver into the northbound lane prior to the head-on impact.

Kaufman was pronounced dead at the scene as was 44-year-old Jennifer Kelly of Farmington. The report notes that Kelly was an occupant in the Ford that was struck but doesn't indicate if she was a passenger or the driver. An unidentified minor child in the Kaufman vehicle was also killed.

A second minor, who was in the Chevrolet, was transported to the Arkansas Cchildren's Hospital in Springdale for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Lieutenant Justin R. Collins of the Farmington Police Department conducted the onsite investigation and said weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident. The accident occurred at 7:15 am according to Collons.

The three deaths push the Arkansas highway fatality total to 139 year to date in 2024.
