Habitual offender from Altus hit with nine years in prison for 2022 methamphetamine arrest




Drugs, drugs, and more drugs have proven to be the downfall of a 29-year-old altus man who drew a 9-year imposed sentence in court proceedings last week in Sebastian County.

According to record from the Sebastian County Circuit Court, Matthew Keaton Chancey, who resides in the 1200 block of Cedar Street in Altus, was charged with one count as position of methamphetamine stemming from an August 10th arrest by the Fort Smith Police Department.

Chancy accepted a plea deal in open court last week and with the guilty plea was sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Corrections for nine years with an additional 20 years suspended. He was also given jail time credit and has been in the SCADC since that arrest in the late summer of 2022.


Booking records indicate Chancey has had two arrests in Sebastian County for felony assists to other agencies, a 2018 drug paraphernalia arrest and a 2017 bust for Second Degree Felony Domestic Battery in his jacket. Court Connect also indicates a number of other arrests nd convictions in various parts pof the state.
