Former Booneville teacher charged with felonies involving inappropriate sexual contact with minor


A former teacher with the Booneville School District was arrested November 17 and charged with a number of counts involving inappropriate sexual contact with a minor. That minor was a student at the Logan County school.

According to a news release from the Logan County Sheriff's office, 30-year-old Kaytlann Barnes was arrested in Fort Smith on a warrant that was issued the same day of the arrest.

The Arkansas State Police assisted in the arrest, which occurred at Banes home in the 2600 block of Dylan Court in Fort Smith.

From booking information from the Logan County Detention Center, and as noted on Wednesday by Today in Fort Smith,, Barnes was booked into the jail at 2:33 p.m. on November 17 and was released on bond approximately 72 hours later.


According to further information from Arkansas Court Connect, Barnes was released on a $25,000 Bond introduced into Circuit Court on Tuesday. On Wednesday she waved arraignment and her attorney, Ernie Witt, filed a motion for discovery.

Barnes is alleged to have sent sexually explicit photos through Snapshot to a student and requested that student to send sexually explicit photos back to her. The victim was under the age of 15, according to court documents.


According to the press release Barnes was charged with Use of a Communication Device to Commit a Felony, Possession of Child Pornography, Sexual Indecency With a Child, and Producing, Directing or Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child..


Barnes is no longer employed by the Booneville School District.
