Floyd Eugene Moss was born on October 12, 1936, in Adair County. . He served in the United States Air Force and later attended Northeastern State University. Moss married Joyce Larena Wilke in Alaska, and they had three children.

He lived alone in a home on the outskirts of Westville, a small town in Adair County with a population under 2,000 at the time.

On July 14, 1987, witnesses observed a silver pickup truck parked behind Moss's residence. Two males and one female were seen carrying unknown items from the home to the truck.

Moss, who was 50 years old, was found deceased inside the house. The cause of death was a gunshot wound. Several personal belongings were missing from the residence, indicating the crime may have involved burglary or robbery.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation took over the case due to its rural location and limited local resources. Investigators canvassed the area for leads on the suspects, the vehicle, and the stolen items. No arrests have been made.

The homicide remains unsolved after nearly 39 years. Moss was buried in the Westville Cemetery in Westville.

It is listed among Adair County's open cases, alongside others such as the 1999 death of Larry Joe Ridge, the 1995 killing of Velma Anna Swank in Watts, and the 1996 death of Patti Diane Larkins in Stilwell.
