Boone County felon arrested for attempting to run down officers with a vehicle


Boone County Sheriff Tim Roberson has reported an assault on three of his Investigators off of Huffman Lane in the rural community of Omaha.

         

According to a press release from the Boone County Sheriff Office, three Investigators was attempting to serve a search warrant on a property off of Huffman Lane on Monday morning.


Investigators observed a blue Chevrolet truck driving toward them in a reckless manner and when the vehicle came closer driver James Andrew Moppin, 29, accelerated toward the officers. Those actions are being characterized as an attempt to run the officers over and Moppin was ordered out of the vehicle at gun point.

Sheriff Roberson reported no officers were hurt in the incident.


Moppin is basically a career criminal with a number of arrest, charges and convictions dating back to 2013. In seven years, Moppin has been arrested for Domestic Battery, Third Degree Battery, Breaking or Entering, Criminal Trespass. Theft of Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of am Instrument of Crime and DWI. The convicted felon also has at least three Revocations on his record.


After tthe incident on Monday, Moppin was arrested on three counts of Aggravated Assault and transported to the Boone County Sheriff's Officer where he is currently being held on a $10,000 bond. He also has pending charges from the Green Forest Police Department.
