ASP report reveals identify of motorcyclist killed in Towson Avenue crash on Thursday

Law enforcement officials say the victim in a fatal motorcycle accident we first told you about Thursday night was a 31-year-old man from Vian, Oklahoma.


According to a preliminary report released by the Arkansas State Police on the Arkansas Department of Public service website Friday morning, Austin Thompson, 31, of Vian was the driver of a 2013 Harley Davidson involved in the crash that occurred at the intersection of Towson avenue and Fresno at 7:41 p.m.

Police say that Thompson was northbound on Towson Avenue when a 2006 Chevrolet HHR driven by 35-year-old Christopher Grigsby of Van Buren was attemping to make a turn to go eastbound on Fresno avenue. According to information from the report, Grigsby turned in front of the Harley on a yellow flashing light.


Police say Thompson attempted to stop but hit the Chevrolet.


Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Grigsby was taken to Baptist Health in Fort Smith and treated for unknown injuries.


Officer Ashley Bradley of the Fort Smith Police Department worked the accident and noted clear weather conditions and dry payment at the time of the impact.
