Yellville man dies in motorcycle accident while fleeing from police in Pope County

Law enforcement officials in Pope County say a 52-year-old man died on Sunday when he drove the motorcycle he was riding into a cable stretched across a private driveway in Pottsville while fleeing from police.

According to a preliminary accident report from the Arkansas State Police 52-year-old Don Byrd of Yellville was traveling west on Spivey Road while attempting to avoid pursing officers.


According to that report bird turned south off the highway on a private driveway at 282 Rush Road and he didn't see the cable stretched across the driveway as a barrier. Bird drove the 2009 Moto Guzzi into the cable and was knocked off the motorcycle.


The incident occurred at 10:45 am


Bird was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pope County Coroner's Office.


According to investigating officer corporal William j Crabb of the Arkansas State Police the weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.
