With encouragement from his parents, local teen comes forward about problematic social media ghost

By Sienna Snider - True Crime Writer for Today in Fort Smith - August 2, 2024

In a startling turn of events, a brave 14-year-old boy from Fort Smith has come forward with crucial information that could finally unmask the perpetrators behind the nefarious "Media Mike Hendricks" profile.

His harrowing account of harassment, videotaping, and threats offers new insights into the dark activities of those responsible for the torment of other victims. The parents of the teenager contacted Today in Fort Smith and agreed to meet with me at their home on the south side of Fort Smith.

The boy, who wishes to remain anonymous for his safety (TIFS would never real the name of a minor victim), recounted his chilling experiences during an exclusive interview. His voice trembled as he began to speak, yet there was an unmistakable resolve in his eyes—a determination to seek justice not just for himself but for everyone affected by "Media Mike Hendricks."

"I started getting weird messages from this 'Media Mike' person a few months ago," the boy began. "At first, it was just comments on my videos, but then it got worse. He started sending me private messages, calling me names, and saying he knew where I lived."

The boy's ordeal didn't end with mere online harassment. He described how he began noticing a vehicle parked near his house at odd hours, with strangers inside who seemed to be watching him.

"One day, I was riding my bike, and I saw a man with a camera hiding behind a tree. He was recording me," the boy said.

Terrified, he confided in his parents. However, the intimidation escalated.

"We started getting weird phone calls, and someone even left a note on our doorstep saying they would 'make us pay' if we talked to the police," the boy recounted.

The parents of the child say, thus far, they have honored his wishes not to get police involved since the activities of 'Media Mike' have slowed down considerably in recent months. The mother said it's possible the suspect in the case may have recently moved out of the neighborhood.

Despite the threats, the boy's personal courage never wavered, and his parents began to piece together clues from his interactions with "Media Mike Hendricks" and from their own observations.

"There were things 'Media Mike' said that made me think he was someone from the neighborhood," the child's mother said, "He mentioned stuff only someone from around here would know."

Through his own sleuthing the boy identified an adult, that has had various interactions with police, who he believes is behind the "Media Mike Hendricks" profile.

"I recognized their voices from some of the threatening calls, and I saw one of them near our house when we got that creepy note," he said.

The mother said while the actual neighborhood sightings of the persons involved in the 'Media Mike' mystery ended this past spring, the messages and social media contacts by the troubled individual have sporadically continued, targeting the entire family.

As the investigation continues, the boy and his family want to remain anonymous. His courage in coming forward has inspired many in the community, shining a light on the importance of speaking out against online harassment and intimidation, and I shared my hopes he would change his mind about getting authorities involved.

Reflecting on his decision to share his story, the boy said, "I just want this to stop. I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. If telling my story can help catch 'Media Mike,' then it's worth it."

This young hero's bravery has undoubtedly brought us one step closer to unmasking "Media Mike Hendricks" and ending the terror inflicted on Fort Smith's residents. His story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of fear, standing up for what is right can make a difference.

Stay tuned to Today in Fort Smith for further updates on this ongoing investigation. The community's support and vigilance remain crucial as we strive to bring justice to all those affected by this digital menace.
