The chief of police of Wister resigned his position with the town after a DWI arrest earlier in the week by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Forty-five-year-old Kurt Dwayne Morsund was arrested April 28 on charges of aggravated DUI as well as child endangerment after the OHP responded to an accident scene just outside the city limits of that town.
According to at least one online report, a firefighter for the Wister fire Department said the former Wister chief hit a guardrail near the Wister dam prior to the crash right around noon April 28.
The OHP report said Morsund ran off the roadway and struck a tree. The report says he was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and alcohol could be smelled on his breath at the time he was contacted by the investigating officer.
.
He failed a field sobriety test and his blood alcohol content was 0.21 at the time of his arrest.
Morsund's 10 year old daughter was in the backseat of the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Morsund toldthe responding officer that he was not drinking before he started driving but started drinking vodka after the crash occurred.
Morrison was released on a $10,000 bond and was formally arraigned on the charges in Leflore County Circuit Court on Thursday.
