Wickes man killed Tuesday in US 71 deadly encounter with eighteen-wheeler

The Arkansas State Police say a Wickes man is dead after a crash on US Highway 71 in Rural Polk County- on Tuesday.

According to an ASP report, Anthony Cole, 44. of Wickes was driving a 2002 Chevrolet s10 southbound on Highway 71 when he crossed the centerline and made contact with a a northbound 2019 Freightliner. The left front bumper of the Chevy impacted the eighteen wheeler and exited the roadway to the right, coming to a final rest facing east.

Cole was pronounced dead at the scene by Polk County coroner Brain Bowser.

The accident occurred at 2:01 pm and trooper Seth Smedley noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the wreck.
