West Fork man dead after being tased by officer after Highway 71 traffic stop on Thursday



According to information from the Arkansas State Police, a West Fork man was tased after a traffic stop by the West Fork Police Department Thursday and later died, resulting in the Arkansas State Police being called in for an investigation.


The West Fork Police Department requested the assistance of the Arkansas State Police with the investigation into the death of Michael J. Hanna, 49, of West Fork.


The traffic stop occurred about 4:15 p.m. Thursday at 6210 U.S. Highway 71 in West Fork. During the course of the interaction, a fight ensued and the officer deployed his taser on Hanna.


While the cause of death is unknown, Hanna’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where it will be determined.


Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police are investigating the incident at the request of authorities within the West Fork Police Department. Upon completion of the investigation, a case file will be delivered to the Washington County prosecuting attorney.
