Updated: 7 days ago

The Arkansas State Police says a 26-year-old man was killed and his 29-year-old female passenger was sent to In Little Rock for treatment of unspecified injuries because of a one vehicle accident that occurred Sunday within the city limits of the city of Mena.

According to a report filed by corporal Michael R. Summit of Troop K of the Arkansas State Police, 26-year-old Gregory Brewer of Mena was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Highway 8 at approximately 12:54 a.m. on Sunday. According to the narrative posted by Trooper Summit, the vehicle failed to negotiate a right-hand curve on Highway 8 east.

The Tahoe began a slight clockwise rotation as it left the roadway and impacted a tree on the driver's side.

Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County deputy coroner Garrett Lundberg.

His passenger, 29-year-old Devon Purcell of Mena, was transported to UAMS in Little Rock for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The investigating officer stated weather conditions were cloudy but the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.

The death of Brewer was the 143rd fatality in 123 total accidents for the year on Arkansas roads and highways.
