A 30-year-old Roland woman was arrested Monday and charged with second degree murderer related to the death of a two-month-old child in November of 2022.
According to information from Sequoyah County, first responders reported to a Roland residence in November 22nd, 2022 in response to a report of the child not breathing. The two-month-old was declared dead at the scene by responding personnel.
In June of this year the autopsy report from the state medical examiner finally arrived back from Oklahoma City. The cause of the death was listed as accidentally asphyxia but contributing factors included methamphetamine exposure, boca-virus infection and unsafe sleeping environments with adult bedding.
A warrant for the arrest of Chelsea Denise Massey was issued on June 17th. The information on the arrest affidavit also said Massey was under the influence of drugs while caring for the child and failed to provide adequate care for the child's health safety and welfare.
The baby also had methamphetamine in its system at the time of death.
If convicted, Massey could face up to 10 years in prison.
