Waldron couple killed after driver runs stop sign at intersection of State Highway 23 and Airport Road





A Waldron couple was killed and a Clarksville woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries after a collision involving a 2018 Dodge Charger and a 2013 Yamaha motorcycle on State Highway 23 near the intersection of Airport Road in Ozark on Friday.


According to a preliminary report issued by the Arkansas State Police, Thomas and Betty Lee of Waldron were southbound on State Highway 23 at approximately 8:46 p.m. Friday night. A 2018 Dodge charger driven by 21-year-old Emmaline Rieder of Clarksville failed to stop at the intersection of the highway and Airport Road and struck the Yamaha. 


Thomas Lee, 59, of Waldron was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County coroner's office. Betty Lee, 49, was transported to the Northwest Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. 


Rieder was also transported to Northwest Medical Center where she was treated for unspecified injuries. 


The Franklin County accident accounted for the 165th fatality in the state of Arkansas on roads and highways for the year.
