Victims in Creek County PIT maneuver related crash identified

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has positively identified the two people who died April 29 after a pursuit in Creek County.

They are Joshua Kyle Priest, a 33-year-old male from Bowlegs and Nicole Ann Stephens, a 30-year-old female from Oklahoma City.

Priest was driving the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze on the Turner Turnpike westbound, just west of S. 209th West Avenue. Trooper Darren Potter stopped Priest for a speeding violation. As Trooper Potter was approaching the vehicle, Priest drove off. Priest exited the turnpike at Bristow and turned onto SH 48 before fleeing down multiple county roads.

The pursuit lasted approximately 15 minutes. Trooper Potter performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention on the vehicle driven by Priest. The vehicle departed the roadway, struck a bridge abutment, overturned and caught fire. Both Priest and Stephens were pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Potter was not injured.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Investigations Section and Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the incident.

Trooper Potter has been placed on paid administrative leave during this investigation.
