Two vehicle accident on I49 Friday afternoon kills one, sends two to hospital for treatment of injuries



An 85-year-old Lowell woman is dead and two other people were transported via helicopter to an area hospital for treatment sustained in a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon near the Bobby Hopper Tunnel.


According to information supplied by the Arkansas State Police 85-year-old Benita Aston of Lowell was passenger in a 2017 Subaru Forester traveling northbound on I-49. Aston merged from the inside to the outside lane and collided with a 1998 Buick LeSabre driven by 22-year-old Doug Sullivan of Rogers.


Ashton was killed in the accident while Sullivan and 79-year-old William Aston, also of Lowell were transported via helicopter to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries. 


The investigating state trooper noted clear conditions and dry pavement at the time of the crash, which occurred at around 4:30 p.m.
