In the town of Waldron, Arkansas in Scott County, a chilling 911 call on December 8, 2015, shattered the quiet of a winter night.

Daniel Ray Roseberry, a 46-year-old resident, confessed to authorities that he had stabbed his girlfriend, Lavonda Legitt, to death during a heated argument.

The brutal crime rocked the close-knit community of Scott County, leaving a lasting mark on its residents. Nearly a decade later, we revisit this heartbreaking case, exploring its details, the legal aftermath, and its impact on a town unaccustomed to such violence.

On that fateful evening, Waldron police rushed to a home on South Main Street after Roseberry’s 911 call. Inside, they found Lavonda Legitt’s lifeless body, marked by multiple stab wounds. According to the probable cause affidavit, Roseberry admitted to the attack, citing a domestic dispute that spiraled out of control.

The scene was described as gruesome, with evidence pointing to a violent and personal confrontation .Roseberry was arrested on the spot and booked into the Scott County Jail with a $1 million bond, reflecting the gravity of the crime.

The case moved quickly through the Scott County Circuit Court. On December 9, 2015, Roseberry was charged with first-degree murde. His confession, combined with physical evidence, left little room for doubt.

By November 3, 2016, after months of legal proceedings, Roseberry was convicted and sentenced to 40 years (480 months) in the Arkansas Department of Corrections

According to ADC records, Roseberry) is currently housed at the Tucker Unit, a maximum-security prison near Pine Bluff. He may be eligible for parole as early as December 7, 2043, assuming good behavior and no changes to his sentence.

Public records show no prior felony convictions, suggesting this was his first major run-in with the law. As of July 2025, there are no public indications of appeals, sentence modifications, or overturned convictions in Roseberry’s case.

Little is known about Lavonda Legitt beyond her connection to Roseberry. News reports --confirm she was his live-in girlfriend, but her personal story==her family, passions, or dreams--remains largely undocumented in public sources.

Her death underscores the devastating toll of domestic violence, a crime that claims countless lives each year, often in silence.

Daniel Roseberry, born July 24, 1969, was a Waldron resident with no notable criminal history before the murder. At 46, his life appeared unremarkable until that fatal night. While his motive was not fully detailed in public records, the affidavit suggests a moment of rage during an argument led to the irreversible act.

Waldron, then a community of fewer than 3,500 people , is no stranger to tight-knit community bonds. Violent crimes like murder are rare here, making Legitt’s death a profound shock.

The tragedy served as a stark reminder that even quiet towns are not immune to the complexities of human conflict.
