Tips from public leads to arrest of driver who assaulted officer with a vehicle on Sunday morning

A 22-year-old Fort Smith man is in custody facing a felony charge of Aggravated Assault Upon a Certified Law Enforcement Officer or an Employee of a Correctional Facility after an incident on Kelley Highway early Sunday morning.
Police were working a hit-and-run accident at around 4am Sunday morning when At when a black Volkswagen passenger car ignored traffic barricades and drove into the scene of the investigation. Officers, at that time, initiated a stop and began speaking to the male driver, later identified as Jason Mayorga, who was traveling alone.
Mayora immediately showed signs of impairment and when asked to turn off the engine, sped away dragging Officer Ashley Breedlove in the process. Officer Breedlove sustained a minor injury to her hip, torn clothing, and a more serious injury to her hand.
After Mayora was identified as a suspect he was interviewed by the Fort Smith Police Department department and placed under arrest for the state felony charge.
A cursory check on Arkansas County Connect showed no previous arres6t information on Mayora.
