Three vehicle accident in Rogers results in the death of an unidentified juvenile Sunday

A juvenile was killed and a 21-year-old Springdale man is behind bars after a Sunday accident at US Highway 412/West Sunset and Jones Street in Springdale, according to the Arkansas State Police.


According to a preliminary report issued by the ASP, three vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred at 11:59 am on Sunday. The deceased juvevile was a passenger in a 2002 Toyota traveling west on Highway 412 that was rear-ended after two other vehicles going in the same direction collided with the car.


Fifty-tree year-old Lisa King was driving a 2005 Chevrolet that was side-swiped by a 2020 Hyundi driven by 21-year-old Nestor Ariel Zuniga of Springdale. The Chenrolet then hit the back of the Toyota, which left tjhe roadway and struck a utility pole.


Hector Deleon and Michah Reynolds, both 19 and from Rogers, were passengers in Toyota and both were taken to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.


Zuniga, who fled the scene of the accident according to police, was later arrested and taken to an area hospital for assesment of his injuries. He was booked into the Washington County Detention Center just after midnight and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damages.


The State Police noted a dry roadway and clear weather conditions at the time of the accident, which resulted in the 519th fatality in the state for the year.
