Three arrested after ver flooding cellblock at Pope County Detention Center on Tuesday

Three inmates have been charged with felonies after a disturbance at the Pope County Detention Center on Tuesday.

At about 3:30 p.m., roughly six inmates flooded their cell block, tried to barricade themselves inside, and verbally threatened detention staff by claiming they had weapons. Pope County deputies, Arkansas State Police, and Russellville police officers responded to the scene.

The inmates immediately complied with orders and were restrained. No one was injured, and a search of the cells turned up no weapons.

Sheriff Blake Wilson said investigators reviewed surveillance video as part of the probe.

As a result, 32-year-old Johnny Lee Qualls and 26-year-old Richard Wayne Shaddon each face three felony counts: inciting a riot, a Class D felony; criminal mischief in the first degree, a Class C felony; and impairing the operation of a vital public facility, a Class C felony.

Thirty-one-year-old William Garrett Jackson is charged with one count of inciting a riot, a Class D felony.

Qualls, Shaddon, and Jackson remain in custody at the Pope County Detention Center. They are scheduled to appear before a district judge on Friday.
