The office of the Sebastian County Prosecutor's issued a press release this afternoon concerning charges filed in Sebastian County Greenwood District Court against a 30-year--old Fort Smith man being charged in a shooting on Saturday.
James Vincent Barton has been charged with aggravated residential burglary and attempted capital murder. The affidavit for probable cause determination was presented to Circuit Judge Michael Wagner who found that probable cause existed for the arrest.
According to that affidavit, deputies with the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting in rurak ; Sebastian County. When they arrived they found Barton helping a man control bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds to his arms. The victim told deputies that when he woke up Barton was standing at the foot of his bed holding a pistol.
The aggravated residential burglary is a Class Y felony and attempted capital murder is a Class A felony in the state of Arkansas. According to information from Arkansas Court connect Barton committed his crimes on September 16th.
Barton is in the Sebastian County Detention Center on a no bond hold and will be arranged on the charges Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
In addition the investigation by the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, and other law enforcement agencies is ongoing with regard to other aspects of this criminal case.
