System upgrades at the City of Fort Smith will cause temporary online disruptions to City Utility Department customers. According to the water department the system will be inactive just for today.
City Utility Department customers will NOT be able to set up new accounts, transfer services, or pay bills online. During this timeframe, customers should plan to pay their utility bills through one of the following options:
By check through the mail; or
In-person at City Hall, located at 623 Garrison Avenue; and
In-person at the City’s drive-thru location, at 517 Rogers Avenue.
Customers may also drop off their payments at the City’s drop-boxes located at:
619 North A St
623 Garrison Ave
3408 Jenny Lind Rd
4701 Windsor Dr
8100 Dallas St
8701 S 28th St
The new PayIt online bill pay system will be unavailable during the upgrade. The City is waiving utility bill late fees and disconnects for non-payment until the upgrades are complete.
Online payments and transfer activities such as meter service inspections and new service activations will resume once the upgrades are complete.
Should existing or potential customers have questions, they can contact the Utility Department’s Citizen Services Center at (479) 784-2262 or contact the city online at CustomerService@FortSmithAR.gov.
The service disruption is occurring because the City is upgrading its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for security and efficiency. The technological transition will also affect the City’s employees, who will have limited access to the system during the upgrade.
Despite these impacts, City employees will still be able to serve customers face-to-face.
