Suspect in Thursday Fort Smith shooting has multiple past arrest in Sebastian and Crawford counties



The Fort Smith Police Department made an arrest in the Thursday shooting at the Briarwood Apartments on the city's south side.


Twenty-six year-old 26-year-old Rancari Pope was arrested in Crawford County in connection to the shooting at the apartment complex, located at 3400 Duke Avenue.


The victim remains in stable condition at a local hospital.


Pope was arrested in May of this year in Fort Smith for Domestic Battery in the third degree and on a misdemeanor Failure to Appear warrant. He arrest.in jail from May 12 through July 27 when he was transferred to another agency to answer to charges from another arrest.


He was also arrested April 29 of this year on Theft of Property charges.


Those arrest came in the heels of a July , 2019 arrest for Battery in the Second Degree - Serious Injury, Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member, Fleeing by Vehicle, Theft of Property, Carrying a Weapon and another Assist Outside Agency charges.


He was also the subject of a 2018 Petition to Revoke.


He has an extensive arrest record in Crawford County as well. Arkansas Court Connect shows he was arrested in 2017 for Domestic Battery, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, Resisting Arrest and Public Intoxication as well as a Misdemeanor Failure to Appear, but he took a plea and everything but the Misdemeanor FTA was dropped by prosecutors.


Pope serve 30 days in the Crawford County Detention Center for that arrest.


The next year, a female filed an Order of Protection against Pope that was later dismissed.


Pope is being held with no bond at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. He faces charges of Battery-1st, Aggravated Robbery, and Aggravated Residential Burglary.
