Sunday head-on collision on US Highway 59 in Summers proves deadly to three in Washington County



A horrific two-car accident in Washington County has claimed the life of three people according to the Arkansas State Police.


A preliminary report posted by the Arkansas Department of Public safety that was posted by t the Arkansas State Police says Thelma J. Holland, 75, Jimmy C. Mason, 76 and Tiffany A. Toan, all from the Summers community in Washington County, died in the accident on Sunday that occurred in the 11000 block of Highway 59 North in Summers.


The preliminary report says that Jimmy Mason was the driver of a 2004 southbound Dodge on Highway 59 and at approximately 3:32 p.m. on Sunday a northbound 2014 Chevy driven by Toan crossed the center line and struck the Mason vehicle head on.


After the impact both vehicles came to final rest part way in the southbound lane of traffic and part way in the western ditch area.


Corporal Desmond Benton of the Arkansas State Police worked the accident and noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of impact.


The three deaths drive the total in the state of Arkansas on highways and roads to 513 for the year.
