A three vehicle accident on US Highway 71 just north of the intersection with State Highway 378 on Sunday took the life of a 77-year-old Hot Springs woman and injured a pair of 80 year-olds according to the Arkansas State Police.
Then accident occured inside the city limits of Mansfield on the Scott County side of the county line.
According to the ASP preliminary report, a 2018 GMC Sierra pick-up traveling north on US 71 was sideswiped by a southbound 1999 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 84-year-old John Butterbaugh of Hot Springs.
Butterbaugh's vehicle, which had crossed the centerline prior to the intial impact with the GMC, continued in the northbound lane and colliued head-on with a 2013 Honda Accord driven by 84-year-old Gordon Miller.
MIller's wife, Sherry Miller, was killed in the accident. Gordon Miller and Butterbaugh were transported to UAMS-Little Rock and Mercy Hospital Fort Smith respectively.
Trooper Skyler McElroy reported condtions were clear and the pavement was dry at the time time of the accident.
