Standoff in Johnson County ends in wounded deputy, arrest for attempted capital murder

A Johnson County Sheriff’s Department deputy was wounded shortly after 2 PM Saturday in the Knoxville community while law enforcement officers were involved in an armed stand-off with a woman at 205 Ivy Lane.


Deputy Brent Scott sustained a non-life threatening wound from a gunshot reportedly fired by the stand-off suspect who had barricaded herself inside a residence.


Christiana Beasley, 44, of Knoxville, was arrested after the incident and charged with attempted capital murder.

Deputies responded to the address on Ivy Lane, in Knoxville, to investigate a possible theft and serve a felony warrant. While deputies were trying to speak to the female resident, she fired one round from inside the trailer nearly striking a deputy in the head.


The suspect barricaded herself inside the trailer. Deputies and troopers surrounded the residence and called for Ozark PD SWAT.


As other personnel arrived, a perimeter was established. During this time, the suspect fired another round out of the trailer. She struck a Johnson County deputy in the lower abdomen. The deputy was evacuated from the scene by ambulance.


Ozark SWAT was joined by Crawford County SWAT, along with their armored MRAP vehicle.The suspect continued to shoot at officers/deputies and their equipment. Eventually, they forced her out of the trailer by introducing a chemical agent. She was taken into custody. She was charged with Attempted Capital Murder, among other crimes.


Police CID agents. The deputy was originally transported to Johnson Regional Hospital, before being transferred to a Fort Smith hospital. He was kept overnight for observation while decisions were reached regarding surgery.
