Single vehicle crash on US High9way out of Mena proves deadly to Charleston man



A 56-year-old Charleston man is dead as the result of a one car accident on US Highway 71 south of Mena on Saturday.

According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary report, Billy Ray Luckenbaugh, was driving a 2012 Ford Fiesta northbound just south of Mena when the vehicle left the roadway to the west at 12:27 a.m, and hit an embankment in front of Copelin Motors. The location of the accident was midway between Mena and Potter Junction.

Luckenbaugh was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:18 a.m. by the Polk County Coroner's office.

The accident was investigated by Corporal Bo Hayes of the Arkansas State Police, who noted clear conditions and dry pavement at the time of the crash

The death was the 349th in 2021 on Arkansas road and highways.
