A Hackett man who we first told you about in June when he failed to register as a sex offender for the third time in less than three years will have a little time to study on the error of his ways of as he awaits transfer to the Arkansas Department of Corrections after a plea deal last month in Sebastian County Circuit Court.
Michael J. Mars, a Level 2 Sex offender who had two previous arrest for registration violations in October of 2017 and July of 2018, has been an inmate at the SCADC since a June 11 arrest this year. He keeps coming the same violation, going to ;prison, getting released and doing it all over again, according to court records.
Mars was sentenced to five years in prison with fifteen years suspended for his latest arrest.
After his violation in 2017, he was sentenced in January 2018 to 48-months for Failing to register or report Address Change and in July of 2018, less than six-months after that sentence,, he was arrested again on the same charge. He was slapped on the wrist with a 48-day sentence, served 37-days and was set free once again.
Mars spent four days in jail in October of last year for Aggravated Assault on a Family or Household Member, Domestic Battering in the Third Degree - Purposely, and a Parole Violation but there is no record of any adjudication of those crimes,
He also was hit with a Petition to Revoke when he was arrested earlier this year for failing to register, but those charges were withdrawn as part of his August plea deal.
