Semi strikes vehicle stranded after accident on Highway 412 in Springdale killing two people


A tragic accident Wednesday morning on East Highway 412 near the intersection of West Hickory flat Road in Springdale took the life of two Northwest Arkansas residents according to the Arkansas State Police.


According to information from the ASP a 2021 Volvo semi-truck was traveling west on Highway 412 in the far right lane. An accident involving two passenger cars had forced 24-year-old Noah Caldwell of Rogers out of the vehicle in which he was riding to check on the driver of the other vehicle..


The driver of the semi-truck struck one of the vehicles, described as a 2018 Toyota Corolla, driven by Matthew Olinger, 23, of Huntsville. The semi also struck Caldwell who was standing next to the stricken vehicle in the roadway.


From the report it appears that both Olinger and Caldwell were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident..

Investigating state trooper Maria Duarte said the conditions were foggy but the road was dry at the time of the accident in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.


The multi victim accident runs the number of fatalities in Arkansas on roads and highways to 392 for the year
