The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that a 2-year-old who was put on life support following a UTV accident this week has passed away. The death occurred after the child's brother, who was eight months old, passed away on the scene of the tragic accident earlier in the week.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol during a family outing at Happyland ATV Park in Norman on Sunday afternoon, an eight-month-old and his two-year-old brother and two of their siblings were riding on a utility terrain vehicle alongside their mother and her fiancé.
The family was traveling through a designated safe area of the South Canadian Riveron June 30 , according to OHP, when a 2022 Polaris Ranger submerged in a point where the river bottom abruptly dipped. While the mother and other children were able to make it to land, two of the kids were trapped by their child restraints.
The two child victims were discovered still in their car seats when the UTV was towed out after 20 minutes and OHP reports that they were taken to a nearby hospital.
Happyland's owner posted a Facebook message on Friday and said the park was permanently closing because of the tragedy.
