The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 27-year-old woman following an investigation into a plot to smuggle prohibited items into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center.

The scheme, uncovered by authorities, involved an inmate attempting to enlist a deputy as an intermediary to facilitate the delivery.

According to investigators, the inmate sent multiple letters to a deputy at the detention center, requesting assistance in a plan to obtain contraband. The deputy promptly reported the solicitation to supervisors, triggering an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division. Authorities revealed that the deputy had been offered $1,000 to participate in the illicit arrangement.

The investigation quickly identified an external accomplice, leading deputies to arrange a meeting with the suspect. On the day of the sting, 27-year-old Kuyria Beckman of Fort Smith met with an investigator at her workplace and handed over a plastic bag containing tobacco packages, rolling papers, a lighter, vape pens, and $100 in cash.

Beckman was arrested on the spot and charged with conspiracy to deliver or obtain a controlled substance, a felony.

Following her arrest, Beckman was booked into the SCADC, where she later posted bond and was released.

The Sheriff’s Office praised the deputy’s integrity in reporting the scheme, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining security within the facility.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to address contraband-related challenges in the detention center.
