Rogers man dies after jumping onto vehicle passing under overpass on I49 corridor in Benton County

A fatal accident occurred on Interstate 49 southbound near Exit 82 on Friday,, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Hutton Mitchell of Rogers. According to Arkansas State Police, the incident took place under rainy and wet road conditions beneath the Belleview Overpass in Benton County.
Preliminary reports indicate that two vehicles, a 2020 Chevy Equinox and a 2022 Ford Transit, were traveling southbound in the center lane. Mitchell, a pedestrian, leapt from the Belleview Overpass, landing on the roof of the Ford Transit.
He then fell onto the roadway in front of the Chevy Equinox, which was unable to avoid striking him. Mitchell was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No injuries were reported among the drivers or passengers of the involved vehicles. The Benton County Coroner’s Office is holding Mitchell’s body, and his next of kin have been notified.
Arkansas State Police Trooper Caleb S. Miller investigated the incident for the ASP.
