Repeat offender arrested in Sequpyah County for internet solicitation of a minor for sexual communication or contact

A 43-year-old Oklahoma City man was booked into the Sequoyah County Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon on a charge of soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.
Jason A. Harjo, listed as male and race American Indian was booked at 3:17 p.m. on July 27, 2026. His inmate identification number is 166551. He is recorded as a resident of Oklahoma City.
According to public booking records released by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, Harjo faces one charge: soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.
Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged incident or the identity of any alleged victim.
Public records and news reports from April 2018 document a prior arrest of a Jason Harjo in Sallisaw. At that time he was described as 34 years old and a Sallisaw resident.
Sallisaw police said the investigation began after a mother reported that her 14-year-old daughter had received Facebook messages from a man identifying himself as 34-year-old “James Welch.”
Detectives posed online as a 15-year-old girl. The suspect sent a nude photograph of himself and arranged a meeting, after which he was taken into custody and identified as Jason Harjo. He was charged with facilitating sexual conduct with a minor and lewd or indecent proposal to a child. Investigators stated they believed he may have attempted contact with other juveniles.
The age progression and repeated connection to Sequoyah County are consistent with the individual booked this week. The 2018 case also involved alleged online contact with a minor, similar in nature to the current technology-related charge.
Harjo remains in custody at the Sequoyah County Detention Center in Sallisaw
No additional statements have been issued by the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office or prosecutors beyond the booking information.
