A Tulsa physician is among hundreds of medical professionals nationwide facing criminal charges as part of a sweeping federal healthcare fraud takedown led by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Dr. Ladd Clayton Atkins, 50, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, has been charged with conspiracy to unlawfully distribute Adderall--a Schedule II controlled substance--and conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud involving Medicare and Medicaid claims.
Prosecutors allege Atkins knowingly collaborated with others to issue illegal prescriptions and submit fraudulent claims for medically unnecessary services.
“These actions not only harmed taxpayers in our district but also contributed to the spread of illegal drugs in our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson of the Northern District of Oklahoma. “We remain committed to protecting public health and trust in the medical profession.”
The case stems from the DOJ's 2025 National Healthcare Fraud Takedown, which targeted 324 defendants in 50 federal districts and 12 State Attorneys General’s Offices. The coordinated investigation uncovered an estimated $14.6 billion in intended losses and led to the seizure of $245 million in cash, cryptocurrency, luxury cars, and other assets.
In Oklahoma, the takedown effort was supported by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joel-lyn McCormick and Attila Bogar.
This historic enforcement action signals the federal government’s intensified focus on rooting out medical professionals who exploit healthcare systems for personal gain.
