A 52-year-old local man has been ordered to serve the statutory maximum of 660 months (55 years) in federal prison for a violent 2022 attack on his ex-girlfriend that involved forcing her into a vehicle at gunpoint, physical assault, and shooting her multiple times in a hospital parking garage

.U.S. District Judge Bernard M. Jones, II, imposed the sentence on January 12, 2026, after a federal jury convicted Robert Lee Harrison Jr. of attempted kidnapping at a retrial in July 2025. Harrison was also convicted of attempted carjacking and illegal possession of ammunition. Here are views of the U.S. Courthouse in Oklahoma City, where the sentencing

The incident occurred on or around March 2022, when Harrison's ex-girlfriend testified that he forced her into her car at gunpoint as she left work in the parking garage at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City

Evidence presented at trial showed that Harrison confined the victim in the vehicle and repeatedly punched her before she managed to escape. He then pursued her to the elevator lobby of the parking garage, where he shot her approximately eight times before fleeing the scene. Oklahoma City Police Department officers arrested Harrison the following day after a brief foot chase.

The case has a complex legal history. In April 2022, a federal grand jury initially charged Harrison with illegal possession of ammunition, carjacking, kidnapping, and use and discharge of a firearm during the carjacking. A federal jury convicted him on all counts in January 2023, leading to a life sentence in October 2023.

However, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals later vacated the kidnapping and firearm discharge convictions due to intervening changes in the law, while allowing a retrial on the attempted kidnapping charge.

The July 2025 retrial resulted in the attempted kidnapping conviction, paving the way for the recent sentencing. In announcing the 660-month term, Judge Jones highlighted Harrison's significant criminal history, his lack of remorse, and the heightened risk of future violent conduct posed by the "violent and horrific" nature of the offense. Harrison was also ordered to pay $13,907.41 in restitution.

The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Oklahoma City Police Department, with assistance from the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David Nichols, Jr., and Jacquelyn Hutzell prosecuted the case

.This prosecution falls under "Operation 922" and "Shots Fired," initiatives within the Western District of Oklahoma's implementation of Project Safe Neighborhoods — the Department of Justice's key program to combat gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.
