Red Oak man steps off sandbar in Arkansas River on Friday and never resurfaces



Law enforcement officials in Muskogee County say that a 73-year-old Red Oak man (Latimer County) died in a drowning incident on the Arkansas River last Friday.
According to a news release from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Glenn Newburn of Red Oak and another individual were walking along the bank of the Arkansas River approximately 200 yards east of 124th Street in Taft (Muskogee County).
Newburn stepped off a sand bar in approximately 3.5 feet deep of moving water.
He went under and never resurfaced. His body was recovered Saturday morning around 10:30 approximately a half mile east of where he went under.
