A Fort Smith man already doing time on his second prison stint was returned to Sebastian County last week to stand charges stemming from when he violated again after earning parole from a 2018 conviction.

James M. Landers, whose last Fort Smith address was in the 2700 block of North 37th. was already serving a 48-month prison term for six felonies committed almost four years ago after he had his parole revoked for a late-2021 arrest on aggravated robbery and failure to appear charges. Those FTA charges came from a November arrest on weapons and drug charges.

He was brought back to the Sebastian County Detention Center on August 2 to face the accumulated charges which resulted in eighteen years imposed and twenty years suspended for felony possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia and an FTA charge. He was sentenced with a habitual offender enhancement with all time to run concurrent with each other and existing terms.

In Sebastian County alone since 2017, Landers has been arrested on fifteen separate felony counts, mostly drug related. He also has been picked up on three different drug court sanction violations.

While in prison from his original 2018 conviction and since returning on the parole violation, Landers has compiled twenty-eight major disciplanary violations from the ADC staff.
