Poteau police arrest man with thirteen- year criminal past in Thursday murder

Sources in Leflore County say a 40 -year-old man is dead after a Thursday afternoon shooting and a 28-year old area resident has been charged with First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearms by a Felon.


Jordan James Scott, a two time felon, was booked into the Leflore County Detention Center on both charges and is currently being held without bail


The victim died of "multiple gunshot wounds"in the Poteau shooting, according to the source. Police were called by hospital personnel when the victim, who has not been identified pending notification of the next of kin, was brought into the emergency room just before 6 p.m. Thursday.


Scott is well known to law enforcement in Leflore County, having appeared in district court in Poteau twenty times between November 14, 2007 and July 11, 2018. While his business with the court has included a plethora of traffic violations, he has also faced a number of serious charges including:


- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

- Resisting Arrest

- Transporting a Loaded Forearm in a Motor Vehicle

- Spotlighting

- Felon in Possession of a Firearm

- Hunting From a Motor Vehicle

- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

- Possession of a Controlled Substance

- Possession of Paraphernalia

- Reckless Driving

- Assault and Battery

- Domestic Abuse


In addition, Scott has compiled an impressive list of traffic citations in Sequoyah, Latimer, Pushmataha and Pawnee counties in the past decade.


No date has been released for Scott's first hearing on the murder charge.
