Pope County truck driver killed Saturday in crash involving three big rigs in St. Francis County




63-year-old Pope County truck driver is dead after a crash of three big rigs occurred early Saturday afternoon in the westbound lane of I40 near the 247 mile marker in St. Francis county. 


According to information released by the Arkansas State Police, Danny Jeffcoat, of Pottsville, was driving a 2011 Peterbilt westbound on the interstate when he crashed into a 2016 Freightliner that was stopped in traffic in the right lane.


Another stationary truck, a 2016 Kenworth,  was also struck when the Jeffcoat rig reentered the highway after the initial impact.


After the two collisions, Jeffcoat's truck came to final rest in the right-hand lane of the interstate. 


The accident occurred at 1:34 p.m. Saturday inside the city limits of Widener.


Jeffcoat was declared dead at the scene by the Saint Francis County coroner and his body was transported to the local morgue.


 Corporal JasonCrabb of the Arkansas State Police worked the accident and said weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the impact.
