Pope County accident on I40 proves deadly to 36-year-old Sherwood man on Wednesday

The Arkansas State Police is reporting the death of a 36-year-old Sherwood man who was killed in the one-vehicle accident early Wednesday morning on I40 inside the Atkins City limits.

Police saw Shawn Collins was eastbound on Interstate 40 near the 98-mile marker when the 2013 Hyundai he was driving exited the roadway to the left. Collins over-corrected and went back across the highway to the right into a grassy area on the south side of the road. The vehicle then impacted a tree on the drivers side.

Corporal Kyle Johnson of the Arkansas State Police worked the accident and noted clear weather conditions and a dry roadway at the time of the crash, which occurred at 6:45 a.m.
