Police say Huntsville man exposed 23 students to methamphetamine on school district property

A Huntsville man is facing multiple charges after a student found a small plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance at an intermediate school on October 3.

The student reported the discovery to a teacher, who then alerted school authorities. Huntsville police responded to the scene and confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, weighing 8.4 grams.

Twenty-nine year-old Richard Calico Jr., of Huntsville turned himself in at the Madison County Jail on November 1. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and 23 counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

The incident exposed 22 other students to the dangerous substance and Calico was charged separately for each count.

Calico was booked into the jail without incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help ensure the safety of the community's children.
