Plea deal on drug charges sends Midland woman to ADC for seven-year sentence

A 41-year-old Midland woman who has made herself well known to law enforcement officials in recent years was sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Corrections for seven years with an additional eight years suspended in Sebastian County Circuit Court last week.

According to court documents, Brandi Lee Cumbee, who's listed residents was in the 400 block of Madison Street in Midland, accepted a plea deal in open court on Wednesday on a drug arrest from over a year and a half ago. Cumbie was arrested December 28, 2020 and charged with two counts of possession of controlled substance schedule I/II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as one count of obstructing governmental operations.

In court on Wednesday Cumbie appeared with public defender Christina Scherry and the state announced a habitual offender tag that added four plus years to her sentence. Cumbie pleaded guilty to the drug charge which also included one charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Cumbie's sentence was set to run concurrent with her existing time for parole violation and she was given jail time credit for her time previously served. The petition to revoke was withdrawn based on the play and the state refused to have file on failure to appear.

As of Sunday afternoon, Cumbie was still in the custody of the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center awaiting transfer to the ADC.
