Pedestrian accident on Highway 59 in Van Buren claims 58-year-old local resident

The Arkansas State Police says a 58-year-old Van Buren man died as the result of being struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Highway 59 in Van Buren on Monday.

According to the ADSP preliminary report, John R. Fleming attempted to cross the roadway from Walmart towards the Pic-n-Tote at 2203 Fayetteville Road when he was struck by a southbound 2020 Buick Enclave. Fleming was transported top Mercy Hospital in Fprt Smith where he was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred at 5:35 p.m. and the responding officer notified the dark condition in his report.
