OSBI investgating officer related shooting that left Anadarko man dead on Sunday

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is providing the following update on an officer-involved shooting that occurred last night in Anadarko (Caddo County).

The OSBI was requested by the Anadarko Police Department to investigate an officer-involved-shooting that occurred around 9 p.m. on October 16, 2022.

An Anadarko police made a traffic stop on a vehicle at 4th and Louisiana in Anadarko and the vehicle pulls over and the officer begins questioning the occupants.

A backup officer was requested to assist with the traffic stop. One of the officers was assisting the passenger, Angel Jimenez, 26, out of the vehicle when Jimenez runs from the scene.

A short foot pursuit ended in the 300 block of West. Texas when Jimenez was shot. Officers rendered aid until EMTs arrived. Jimenez was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A gun was recovered at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Based on the active and ongoing investigation, agents have learned that:

* An Anadarko police officer saw Jimenez with a gun as soon as he began running from the stopped vehicle.

* Officers gave multiple commands for Jimenez to drop the weapon during their foot pursuit of him.

* An officer radioed dispatch that they were pursuing a man with a gun. * Jimenez does not comply with officer's repeated commands for him to drop the gun.

* Jimenez turns towards officers with the gun when he is shot.

The OSBI investigation is ongoing. There is no additional information to release at this time.

The OSBI's initial understanding of the facts and circumstances may evolve over the course of the investigation as witnesses are interviewed and evidence is collected and analyzed.

Upon completion of the OSBI investigation, agents will submit a report summarizing their investigation to the office of the prosecuting attorney who will determine whether or not to file charges.
