The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Oklahoma Office of the State Medical Examiner are currently probing the death of 43-year-old Honesty Owens, found unresponsive in her cell at the Sequoyah County Detention Center on September 12, 2025.

Owens, who had a history of numerous arrests in Sequoyah County, had been detained for about three weeks prior to her death.Jail staff discovered her around 2:30 a.m. that Friday and quickly initiated emergency measures, calling for medical assistance.

No visible signs of injury or trauma were noted.

The OSBI and medical examiner’s office took charge of the investigation. Preliminary findings from the medical examiner indicate a natural cause of death, with an autopsy underway at the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner.

Specific charges from her latest arrest remain undisclosed.
