Oregon couple killed after vehicle is hit by 2007 Peterbilt on I40 at mile marker 31

The Arkansas State Police are reporting an accident that occurred this morning on Interstate 40 at the 31 mile marker in Franklin County that took the life of an elderly couple from Oregon.

Police say Thomas and Helen Buie, both 82 of Brookings, Oregon, were killed when the 2014 Honda they were driving east on I40 in Ozark left the shoulder after being stopped and pulled into the path of a 2007 Peterbilt that was traveling eastbound. The Peterbilt struck the Honda on the drivers side.

The impact drove the Honda off the left side of the roadway, where both vehicles came to rest.

Both the Buie's were pronounced dead at the scene.

Corporal Jed Bolyard worked the accident and reported the weather conditions and the roadway were both clear at the time of the accident, which occurred at 5am.
