Ola resident dies in one-vehicle accident Friday afternoon on State Highway 80 in Yell County


A 70 year old ola woman died Thursday in a crash on State Highway 80 in rural Yell County according to information supplied by the Arkansas State Police.


A preliminary report posted by the ASP on the Arkansas Department of PublicS afety website detailed the accident which occurred at 4:45 p.m. 


Carolyn Smith was the driver of a 2020 Ford that was traveling west on State Highway 80. Near the 20000 block of SH 80 the Ford crossed the center line and ran off the roadway to the left. The Ford then travel down the ditch line and struck a tree where it came to rest.


Smith was taken to UAMS Little Rock where she was pronounced dead. Smith's funeral was held Saturday at the Ola Free Will Baptist church.


Responding Trooper Corporal Steven Patton of the ASP noted the weather conditions were rainy and the road was wet and slick at the time of the accident.
