Oklahoma County Detention Center suffers fifth inmate death of the year after 21-year-old found unresponsive

Oklahoma County detention officials conducted site checks at 6:30 a.m. on Monday and discovered inmate Timothy Lee Hardin, 21, unresponsive on the floor of his assigned holding cell, according to a news release from the sheriff's department in Oklahoma City.

Officers promptly summoned medical staff to attend to Hardin and initiated life-saving efforts. According to jail officials, these measures were ineffective and the inmate was later declared dead.

Oklahoma County Commissioner Brian Maughan told the press he was told the death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose.

Oklahoma City police arrested Hardin May 15. He had been charged four times in Oklahoma County District Court in the last year with violation of a protective order. His bond amount was set at $10,000.

He did not have a cellmate, and he was last seen by an officer and captured on video eating breakfast at around 4:48 a.m.

Hardin marks the fifth inmate death of 2024 at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

An investigation into the death continues.
